This notice is to inform you that around 5:05 p.m. this evening an unknown substance was found in one of our classrooms by a teacher, who immediately reported the incident to our Safe Schools & Security team. The classroom was secured, and the Salt River Police Department was contacted. An officer collected the substance, and the incident is now under investigation.
Public Works arranged to have the classroom deep cleaned this evening. Students in the affected classroom will meet in an alternate location tomorrow.
We are grateful for the quick response and coordination of staff, security, police, and Public Works. We do not know what the substance is; however, we are taking this matter seriously and want to be proactive and transparent with our families. This is a great reminder to stay vigilant, and remember that we have a zero tolerance drug policy in our Community and especially at Salt River Schools. If you see something suspicious, please report it to law enforcement.
Please call or email me with any questions.
Thank you,
Dr. Amanda Guerrero

Student and staff safety is our top priority at Salt River Elementary School. In order to maintain a safe environment for students to study and learn, it is necessary that we practice our emergency and crisis response plans by conducting a variety of safety drills throughout the school year.
This message is to inform you that today, Wednesday, Aug. 23, we practiced a FIRE DRILL. It is important for you to understand this type of drill.
Fire drills are typically happen monthly. These drills are a requirement and are completed in partnership with the Salt River Fire Department. This type of drill is an evacuation in which every adult and student evacuates the building to safety. Once students and adults are accounted for, the drill is lifted and school/business resumes as normal.
We want each student to understand and be aware of the importance of this drill and not be afraid when the fire alarm is sounded. Practicing ensure students will know what to do and how to do it in a real emergency.
Our drill today ran smoothly. Each student and staff member followed the procedures effortlessly.
Please remember that these safety practice drills are done to help maintain our school as a safe place to learn and work.
If you have any questions regarding today’s drill or other safety concerns, please contact SRES at 480-362-2400.

Dear Salt River Elementary School Sixth Grade Families: I am thrilled to announce the addition of a third Highly Qualified teacher on the sixth grade team. Miyone Roanhorse will begin in the classroom with students on Wednesday, Aug. 16.
All sixth graders are taught math by Ms. Calvin and reading by Mrs. Yellowhair; Ms. Roanhorse will teach language and writing. All teachers will teach science; social studies standards are integrated with reading and writing lessons.
The hire of Ms. Roanhorse continues our school’s improvement efforts to place quality teaching and learning at the forefront of our school, as she is a highly qualified and well-regarded teacher with 12 years of experience in education. She worked for five years as a tutor at Salt River High School and an additional five as an SRHS teacher up until it closed in 2020. Most recently, she served as an administrator for two years as athletic director for a charter school.
Ms. Roanhorse will be introduced to students either today or Tuesday this week. I am so excited for this addition to the sixth grade team and to SRES staff. Please contact me with any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Amanda Guerrero, Ed. D.

Welcome to Salt River Elementary School! We are so happy to have your child join us this year! Please follow the SRES student drop-off and dismissal procedures below to ensure a smooth process for everyone.
Student Drop-Off: In the morning, from 7:15–7:45 a.m., student drop-off is in the parking lot at the back of the school through the gate off Highland Avenue. If you are bringing students to the front of the school after 7:45 a.m., you must park and walk your child into the front office (entrance off Center Street). Before 7:45 a.m., this area is not to be used as student drop-off. There are several VISITOR spots for those who need to park to do business in the front office.
Student Dismissal: The gate off Highland Avenue opens at 2:45 p.m., which is when SRES dismisses students. At that time we will begin calling for students as we see their rides enter the parking lot. Students who ride the bus home must have all their transportation forms filled out before they can utilize those services.
Change in Pick-Up Routine: If your child has an afternoon appointment, please pick them up before 2:15 p.m. The SRES front office is unable to dismiss students between 2:16–2:45 p.m. In addition, if you need to change the pick-up routine for your student, you must notify our front office before 1:45 p.m. on a regular day and before 11 a.m. on Early Release days. This gives us enough time to inform teachers and other staff of the changes.
If you have any questions about this, please call SRES at 480-362-2400.
Thank you,
Dr. Amanda Guerrero
