Hey Salt River Elementary School!

Welcome back to a brand new school year! Añi añ ap ce:gig Mrs. Yurek and I’m coming to you from our library.

I wanted to welcome you back, but before we begin our journey into our brand new school year, I wanted to give you the results of our voting of our favorite book last year.

I want to let you know the top three titles in the Grand Canyon Reader Award voting that we did.

If you recall, I present 10 books to you - you get a chance to read them, look at them, we talk about them and then you vote for your very favorite. I’m going to give you the top three.

In third place is "It’s Only Stanley" (https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/bo...). Who could forget this book? It’s about a dog who kept waking his family up overnight because he was tinkering with something. What was Stanley up to? Third place.

In Second Place, is another fun book…and that is the one about Monty in "Can I Tell You a Secret?" (http://www.annakang.com/blog/2015/10/...). Monty is a frog and he is carrying around a big secret and he was really afraid to tell his family. Come in, check it out. If it is new to you, you will really enjoy it. We read this online last year and the narrator used a French accent so every time I think about this book I can hear Monty’s voice in that French accent, it was pretty fun. Check it out!

And Ro Sham Bo, here we go… I have the winner of the Grand Canyon Reader Award for Salt River Elementary for last year and it is…"The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors" (https://www.drewdaywalt.com/). This is really exciting because it is written by Drew Daywalt and he had a winner several years when he wrote The Day The Crayons Quit. This book also won at the state level so our thinking about a favorite book is the same as most of the other students in the state of Arizona. So "The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors" is the Grand Canyon Reader Award Winner!

I am going to have ten new books for you. I hope I see you in the library all the time. THIS is where your journey should begin. Come in, check out a book. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you. Welcome back!
