FIRST THINGS FIRST SUMMER 2024 TRANSITION TO KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

Salt River Elementary School, with funding from SRPMIC First Things First, offers a free, four-week, pre-K summer program for students entering kindergarten this fall (2024-2025 school year). The program introduces students and families to the new school environment and provides school readiness skills for kindergarten success.

Students participate in reading, writing, math, fine and gross motor skills, and art activities. Children learn about school routines and participate in group activities that promote social interactions. Students are served breakfast and lunch at school. Students may also enjoy guest speaker presentations and/or possible field trips. Parent participation is encouraged through parent meetings and weekly make-and-take activities.

 The program takes place in person at SRES May 28 to June 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation is provided to students residing within SRPMIC boundaries. We ask families to please keep children home if they are ill and/or have a fever.

Completion of the SRES enrollment packet is required for program consideration. Students must follow all SRES rules and expectations, including attending school and arriving on time every day. Students may be dropped from the program after two absences (unexcused) or after three behavior incidents.

First priority will be given to students who have not received any early childhood services (preschool, child care, etc.). Second priority will be given to students who have received some early childhood services, but who have special needs that make transition services beneficial.

Participation in the program does not take the place of 180 days in kindergarten; this program supports transition to kindergarten. If you have any questions, please contact us at 480-362-2400.
